CHLI Law Fellowship Program Application

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be of 1L or 2L standing in an accredited school in the United States
  • Must be fully available during program dates
  • All persons selected must be able to validate their identity and eligibility to work in the United States

Required Documents

  • Copy of an academic transcript
  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement 600-800 words
  • Essay 600 words. Prompt provided in the application instructions.

Application Instructions

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Applications for the 2024 Summer Law Fellowship Program will be accepted until Friday, February 23 at 10:00 pm EST

  1. Complete online application (below).
  2. Cover letter: One page letter describing what you hope to gain from the program.
  3. Resume: Must include academic and professional background, and extracurricular activities.
  4. Two letters of recommendation: Can be from a professor or employer. The letter must be included in your application or sent directly by the recommender via email to CHLI’s Senior Internship Programs Manager, Nicole Marín at nmarin@chli.org.
  5. Personal statement: In approximately 600-800 words, describe your family, work, educational, and community experience that led you to apply to the CHLI Law Felllowship Program. How do these experiences relate to your long-term goals? How will you continue your leadership within the community?
  6. In recent years, there has been an increased emphasis on promoting diversity within the legal profession. In 600 words and considering recent Supreme Court rulings on affirmative action programs, articulate why it is important to seek diversity within the legal profession in the United States considering one (1) of the following aspects:
  • Representation and access to justice
  • Diverse perspectives
  • Cultural competence and client relationships

The essay should be well structured, clearly articulated and demonstrate thoughtful analysis of the issues surrounding diversity in the legal field.
