Claudia Puig

President and General Manager | Univision Miami

Television and Radio remain two of the most important and constant media for Hispanics in the US.  Univision Communications (UCI) is the leading  media company serving this important segment of the population. As President and General Manager of UCI in South Florida, Claudia Puig, is a recognized national broadcast executive with over 30 years’ experience in the US Hispanic media market.

She began her work experience with an advertising/sales position at AT&T BellSouth, where she achieved the highly selective Elite Club status, making her one of the Company’s top performers.

After a few years, she decided to accept an opportunity in broadcasting. Quickly she rose to management and ever since she has successfully held management positions in the country’s top Radio Broadcasting companies. In SBS, Puig held various sales management positions ranging from local to National Sales Manager. She was then promoted on to Vice President of Network Sales.

In 1997, Ms. Puig joined Univision Radio, formerly known as Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation (HBC) as General Manager of their four radio properties. After a few years of continued success, she was promoted to Senior Vice President,  East-Coast Regional Manager. In that role, she was responsible for the overall supervision of operation, finances, sales, programming, business development, and programming for Univision Radio in Miami, Puerto Rico, and New York for a total of eight radio stations. During her tenure, these UVN stations consistently led the market in revenues & ratings. She was instrumental in the successful rollout of Univision new radio station in NY in 2009.  Her responsibilities include sales, programming, finance, digital, OTT, and community engagement.

As Univision restructured to have unified 360 Multiplatform market strategy 2012, Claudia Puig became President/General Manager for the South Florida Market, overviewing every aspect of the operation to include News, content, finance, and marketing.  She has led the market in ratings and revenue with a strong community engagement approach.

She has a strong personal commitment to serve the Hispanic community. Claudia  as Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Florida International University and during her 16 years on the Board of her Alma Mater focused on increasing Hispanic graduation rates. Now, she is serving on the FIU Foundation Board. She also served on the Boards of The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, where she chaired  the finance and audit committee, Florida Association of Broadcaster as chair and member. She also served as the Florida vice-Regent for George Washington’s Mount Vernon Ladies Association, and among others more local in nature. She is still an active member of the Orange Bowl Committee, Beacon Council and Board member of South Florida Hispanic Chamber.

Claudia is proud to have been honored in 2020 being  chosen  by  Broadcast & Cable Magazine, “General Manager of the Year” among the top 25 Markets in the country,  and now “Most Influential Women” by South Florida Business Journal. She was also named 50 Most Powerful Latinas by Fortune Magazine in conjunction with the Assoc of Latino Professionals of America. For over 10 years she has been named among the “ 50 Most  Influential Women in Radio  by Radio  Ink Magazine and was also honored “ Manager of the Year” receiving the prestigious, “ Medalla de Cortez” award.

Claudia and her husband of 30  years Richard Amundsen, have three grown children and  six grandchildren.
