CHLI Supports the People of Puerto Rico

CHLI Community Relief and Recovery Efforts for Those Affected
Washington, D.C. — The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) extends its thoughts and prayers to the people of Puerto Rico. The CHLI community is supporting response and relief by providing aid to those affected by the Hurricanes.

AT&T
AT&T Inc., a nationwide wireless service provider located throughout the United States and in U.S. territories, is providing AT&T communication equipment and technicians in order to restore communication capabilities on the island with the help of  the Dover Air Force. AT&T is currently connecting more than 9 million calls and 5 million text messages a day on their network in Puerto Rico. BP
BP, a global producer of oil and gas with operations in over 70 countries, has donated 200,000 gallons of fuel to assist with relief efforts in Puerto Rico following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. BP provided the fuel to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Peerless Oil and Chemicals Inc. and officials coordinating response efforts will distribute the fuel based on need. The donation consists of 200,000 gallons of diesel fuel, which will go to first responders aiding in the ongoing recovery efforts, including hospitals and city services.

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE
Carnival Cruise Line is providing extensive and wide-ranging relief throughout the Caribbean and is delivering critical supplies and the most immediate necessities, including food, water, clothing, diapers, and generators, among other items, to destinations that need assistance. As rebuilding efforts begin in the affected islands, Carnival Corporation, Miami HEAT Charitable Fund and the foundation of Carnival Corporation Chairman Micky Arison and his wife Madeleine (the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation) have pledged up to $10 million in funding and in-kind support in Florida and throughout the Caribbean following Hurricane Irma.

FORD
Ford, an American multinational automaker, was one of the first corporations to announce support and relief efforts with a $200,000 donation for aid through partners, including Red Cross and others, the same week Maria hit Puerto Rico. The company has also matched employee donations and is planning additional support.

HERBALIFE
Herbalife Nutrition, a premier global nutrition company based in Los Angeles, is sending 500,000 Formula 1 packets – a ready to mix high-protein, nutrient dense meal replacement shake,  50,000 Protein Deluxe Bars and 3,000 bottles of water. The donation is being coordinated through New York Governor Cuomo’s Office of Disaster Relief in cooperation with the New York State Hispanic Caucus Task Force and Somos El Futuro, both chaired by Assemblyman Marcos Crespo (D-85).

TELEMUNDO
On Sunday, September 24, Telemundo presented “Todos Unidos” (All Together), a four-hour television special, hosted by international media icon, Mario Kreutzberger and Don Francisco, where Artists and celebrities joined to support all the victims of the recent natural disasters, particularly those affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the earthquake in Mexico, as well as those in Texas and Florida. In addition, Telemundo.com used its social and mobile platforms to live stream highlights featuring the unconditional support of dozens of actors, hosts, singers, journalists, producers and staff, as well as renowned sports and music personalities, to help ease the pain and anguish of thousands of people. UNIVISION
Univision Communications Inc., a leading multimedia company serving Hispanic America, is working with the Hispanic Federation and with the First Lady of Puerto Rico on her organization, Unidos por Puerto Rico, in order to assist with effects caused by Hurricane Maria. Donations can be made by calling 1800-842-2200, or by clicking any of the links below:

View all of Univision’s efforts on their Unidos por los Nuestros campaign, where they are working with several of their local stations and their local partners in New York City, Miami and Puerto Rico, on collecting donation items to transport to Puerto Rico.

UPS
UPS is a global leader in logistics, offering a broad range of solutions including transporting packages and freight; facilitating international trade, and deploying advanced technology to more efficiently manage the world of business. In the last two weeks, UPS has transported more than 1.7 million pounds of relief supplies to Puerto Rico for groups including FEMA, the CDC, the Salvation Army and now UNICEF USA and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Empire State Relief and Recovery Effort. VERIZON
Verizon, a global leader delivering innovative communications and technology solutions, announced that the company is quintupling the funds from its original pledge to a total of $5 Million, in order to aid the islands from the damages caused by Hurricane Maria. The company previously announced a $1 Million pledge supporting immediate relief efforts of the American Red Cross and World Vision. Organizations receiving the additional $4 Million will be named as the Verizon Foundation and local authorities identified organizations that can provide significant long-term recovery assistance. Read full details here.
