Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) is deeply honored and profoundly grateful that its founder, the late Lincoln Diaz-Balart, was posthumously awarded the Florida Medal of Freedom by Governor Ron DeSantis. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Governor DeSantis for bestowing this distinguished recognition upon our founder. The award, Florida’s highest civilian honor, recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the state and the nation.
Lincoln Diaz-Balart, a former U.S. Congressman and distinguished public servant, founded CHLI in 2003 with a vision of advancing the Hispanic community’s diversity of thought. His legacy continues to shape CHLI’s mission today, fostering public service, leadership, and bipartisan engagement.
“Lincoln was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the cause of freedom and the empowerment of the Hispanic community,” said CHLI Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. “We are deeply moved and honored to see him recognized with the Florida Medal of Freedom. We are grateful to Governor DeSantis for this meaningful tribute to Lincoln’s extraordinary contributions. His work, his ideals, and his love for this country continue to inspire CHLI and all those who had the privilege of working alongside him.”
CHLI remains committed to carrying forward Rep. Diaz-Balart’s legacy by preparing future generations of Hispanic leaders, bridging communities, and promoting freedom and opportunity for all.
