Michael Calvo

Michael Calvo was named as Vice President, Federal Government Affairs for Bristol Myers Squibb in October of 2025. Prior to joining BMS, Michael served most recently as Vice President, Government Affairs at BridgeBio, where he was able to lead in advocating for rare disease policies important to the future of BridgeBio’s pipeline, most notably working to help securing the inclusion of the ORPHAN Cures Act in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) in 2025. He also led within the rare disease community by serving on the Executive Committee at the Rare Disease Company Coalition (RDCC) in the role of Secretary.

Prior to joining BridgeBio, Michael served as Head, Federal Government Affairs at GSK. In that role, Michael shaped and executed GSK’s federal engagement strategy and worked in 2022 to ensure for the successful passage of the Protecting Seniors Through Immunization Act, which eliminated the cost sharing burden for Medicare Part D beneficiaries for vaccines. Before that role, Michael was Manager, and then Director, for Federal Government Relations where he worked to support GSK’s Congressional work on drug pricing, Medicare reform, appropriations, and the myriad other topics that were before the biopharmaceutical industry. Michael also worked to support ViiV Healthcare and the then GSK Consumer Healthcare business. In his time in that role, he established himself as a leader in the industry’s lobbying efforts through PhRMA and as the Chair of the Federal Government Affairs Committee at the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA).

Prior to joining industry in 2016, Michael spent nearly thirteen years as a Capitol Hill staffer working in various legislative roles for former Rep. Charles Taylor (NC-11), former Rep. Patrick McHenry (NC-10), former Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D. (GA-11), and former Rep. Jody Hice (GA-10). Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Duke University in 2002 and his Master of Arts in Liberal Studies – Social and Public Policy from Georgetown University in 2010. Michael is originally from Hendersonville, NC, and he and his wife, Leigh, and his two sons, Tucker and Parker, currently reside in Washington, DC.
