The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) held a Congressional Public Policy Briefing on Energy on December 5, 2024.
The briefing brought together a diverse group of experts in the energy field to have an in-depth dialogue on current public policy issues that affect the U.S. Hispanic and Portuguese communities.
Our esteemed panel of speakers included CHLI Board Members: our moderator, The Honorable Bill Flores, Serolf Technologies LLC; Debbie Marshall, Chevron; and members of the CHLI Advisory Council: Kwame Canty, Edison Electric Institute; and German Chullmir, Orel Energy.
The program began with special remarks from CHLI Vice Chairman, Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (FL), where he discussed the benefits of energy independence and the potential benefits of this approach such as economic growth, reduced consumer costs, and more job opportunities. He also emphasized the importance of producing energy domestically in an environmentally responsible manner to address both economic and sustainability goals.
Panelists engaged in a dynamic discussion on navigating the evolving energy landscape, addressing key challenges and opportunities. They emphasized the importance of aligning industry priorities with shifting policies to support clean energy transitions and infrastructure development. Strategies to enhance collaboration between utilities and small businesses were highlighted, particularly in deploying renewable technologies like EV charging stations and solar installations.
Panelists explored trends currently shaping the energy sector, including regulatory changes, grid modernization, and the implementation of major legislative initiatives. They discussed the importance of proactive engagement with policymakers to address the potential impacts of the incoming administration’s energy policies. Innovative approaches and partnerships were emphasized as essential for advancing energy goals and strengthening the industry’s role in a changing policy environment.
