Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Becker, a multi-practice commercial law firm with attorneys, lobbyists, and other professionals at offices throughout the East Coast, announced that it has created a new Senior Director role which provides equity shareholder-like rights and privileges to veteran Federal lobbyist Omar Franco.
Franco is the first nonlawyer at Becker to receive the title of Senior Director, a status which provides him many of the same benefits as an equity shareholder, with the only limitations being those imposed by the Florida Bar with regard to ownership of law firms. At Becker, the criteria for elevation to Senior Director is the same as that of being nominated to equity shareholder.
Franco has been leading Becker’s Washington, D.C. office since its founding eleven years ago and is in charge of its Federal Lobbying team. The office, which focuses solely on federal lobbying, has expanded significantly under Franco’s leadership: revenue has grown substantially, and its client base has multiplied and evolved to include public and private clients throughout the United States such as Intuit, Univision, 3M, the Motion Picture Association, the Latino Coalition, Virginia Port Authority, the University of Miami, Hennepin County, MN, and Palm Beach County, FL, among others.
Becker’s Managing Shareholder Gary C. Rosen explained, “Over the past year, I have been considering Becker’s succession planning and leadership going forward. Omar exemplifies the attitude, mindset and adherence to Becker culture that our firm values and which makes Becker unique. He has always been a true, selfless leader focused on the best interests of office. He’s a team player who is well respected by clients and colleagues, and that’s why we created a pioneering new category that gives Omar additional firm benefits and stature.”
Franco represents a wide variety of clients including Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, higher education institutions, trade associations, non-profit organizations, and municipal governments. In 2020, Franco was named a “Top Lobbyist” by the National Institute of Lobbying & Ethics (NILE). He has also been recognized as a “Hired Gun” in The Hill’s annual list of Top Lobbyists since 2018.
In addition to Franco’s promotion, construction attorneys Patrick C. Howell and Scott Kiernan, and community association attorney, Donna DiMaggio Berger, were promoted to equity shareholder.
